Moving Home?

Before and After the Move

Before Moving.

Moving home can be a stressful experience, particularly for cats who are creatures of habit and can become anxious and confused by changes in their environment. To alleviate this stress, consider placing your beloved feline friend in a cattery. It is recommended to settle your cat into the cattery a few days before your actual move, ensuring they are not exposed to the final stages of the relocation. This way, they can remain safe, secure, and relaxed in the cattery with their own bedding, allowing them to establish their own routine before you collect them and move them into their new home. If your cat stays with us during your move and settling-in period, you are welcome to visit them during their stay.

After Moving.

After moving, it is advisable to prioritise unpacking before introducing your cat to their new surroundings. This is because cats can still recognise familiar objects in an unfamiliar house, which can help them accept their new home more easily. It is important to provide reassurance to your cat that the new home is also their home. For the first two weeks, it is crucial to keep your cat indoors and not let them venture outside. This is because they need to establish the house as the core of their territory before exploring the outdoors. When you do decide to let your cat out, it is recommended to do so just before a regular mealtime. This way, they will be more likely to return as they become hungry. To maintain a sense of familiarity, it is best to avoid washing your cat's bedding until a couple of weeks after they have started going outside. This allows the bedding to retain their scent, which can help your cat feel more comfortable and secure
